Take the Next Step!
The Vashon Island Food Summit will be an opportunity for Islanders to meet and share information and experience on most any topic regarding food and its impact on Vashon Island. Broad topics will include: · Raising Food · Acquiring and Preparing Food · The Food Economy The three-fold purpose of the event is to · make us all more aware of the food · encourage Islanders to eat more food closer to its · help Islanders learn to prepare good food more economically. Raising food and food preparation will be key areas of information. We will also explore how the way we eat is ultimately a political act and we will learn ways to “vote with our forks.” The conference is free and open to anyone who eats!* The Summit theme is “Take the Next Step,” and we are encouraging everyone decide what the next step is for ourselves as individuals, for our families, and for our Island community to improve the quality of food in our lives—and then take it. We will feature an opening address, keynote speaker, four breakout workshop sessions, organization tables, a “Stone Soup” dinner, “on-the-fly” Salon Sessions, and a Food Celebration. (See a schedule here and a list of demonstrations/tables here.) So, mark your calendars for March 5–7, 2010, and plan to come for all or part of the weekend. Watch this site for more information on conference and pre-conference events and workshops.
*We will be selling Saturday lunch meal tickets at the door to cover the cost of food. The Stone Soup dinner is free as well as snacks served for morning and afternoon breaks. |
